Youth Ministry

St. Mary's, Dumont
What is St. Mary's Youth Ministry?
St. Mary's Youth Ministry (SMYM) is every effort by the Christian community of St. Mary's Church to reach out to youth with the love of God as revealed to us in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. The entire parish does youth ministry by caring for its young people and welcoming them into every aspect of parish life.

Why do we need to minister to young people?
Nowadays, young people grow up in a secular culture for the most part. The response of parish youth ministry to this reality has been to fill the gap by providing programs that reach young people on every level: spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically.

How does SMYM meet the needs of our young people?
SMYM gives young people a chance to hang out and feel comfortable sharing their spirituality and thoughts about God. We have peer ministry, teen leaders, prayer sessions, parties, dances, spiritual retreats, rafting trips, masses, outings to theme parks, softball, justice and service projects, musical performances, and much more!!

When does SMYM meet?
Emmaus, our program for high school students, meets Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the John Paul II Youth Room in the basement of St. Mary's School.

St. Mary's Peers as Leaders (SM Pals), our program for sixth to eighth graders, meets every other Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the John Paul II Youth Room.

We have an Emmaus Family Mass with a reception for families on the first Sunday of each month between October and May in the Upper Church at 7:00 PM.

How do I contact the Youth Ministry Program?
You can contact Charles or Lesa at the rectory 201-385-2936 or via email.

From time to time, we will add links to favorite youth oriented web sites.
